FCSCI and DOR Team Up for Health and Career Fair Celebrating 80 Years of Disability Employment Awareness

The Filipino Community of Solano County, Inc. (FCSCI) is partnering with the Department of Rehabilitation (DOR) to host a special Health and Career Fair this month in recognition of the 80th annual National Disability Employment and Awareness Month (NDEAM).

The free community event aims to connect local residents with employment opportunities and health resources, with a particular focus on supporting individuals with disabilities in achieving their career and wellness goals.

What to Expect

Attendees will find a variety of services and resources under one roof. Local employers and organizations will be present to discuss job openings, internships, and career development programs. Healthcare providers will offer free health screenings and connect visitors with local wellness services.

The Department of Rehabilitation will have representatives on-site to provide information about their vocational training programs, job placement assistance, and workplace accommodation services. Community members can also attend educational workshops covering resume building, interview skills, disability rights, and workplace inclusion strategies.

“This fair represents our commitment to ensuring that all community members, regardless of ability, have access to meaningful employment opportunities and quality healthcare resources,” said a spokesperson from the Filipino Community of Solano County.

Celebrating a Milestone Anniversary

October 2025 marks the 80th anniversary of National Disability Employment and Awareness Month, a federal initiative that celebrates the contributions of workers with disabilities while raising awareness about employment challenges facing the disability community. This year’s observance emphasizes the importance of creating inclusive workplaces where everyone can contribute and thrive.

The timing makes this community fair particularly significant, as it directly addresses the month’s core mission of promoting employment opportunities and workplace inclusion for people with disabilities.

Community Partnership in Action

The collaboration between FCSCI and the Department of Rehabilitation demonstrates how community organizations can work together to address local needs. FCSCI, a nonprofit dedicated to serving the Filipino-American community and broader Solano County through cultural preservation and social services, brings deep community connections to the partnership.

The Department of Rehabilitation contributes expertise in helping people with disabilities achieve employment and independent living goals. The state agency provides vocational counseling, job training programs, and assistive technology resources to consumers throughout California.

Accessibility and Inclusion

Organizers have ensured the event will be fully accessible, with accommodations available upon request. The fair is free and open to all community members, reflecting the inclusive spirit of National Disability Employment and Awareness Month.

Beyond immediate job placement and health screening opportunities, the event serves as a networking hub where attendees can connect with local advocacy groups, support services, and community leaders working on disability rights and inclusion issues.

Looking Forward

As the disability employment movement enters its ninth decade, events like this Health and Career Fair represent the ongoing effort to create more inclusive communities. By bringing together employers, healthcare providers, and support services in one location, the fair removes barriers that often prevent people with disabilities from accessing these vital resources.

The partnership between FCSCI and DOR also highlights how cultural community organizations can play important roles in disability advocacy and support, ensuring that outreach efforts reflect the diverse makeup of local communities.
